Rapid Spray Tans vs. Traditional Spray Tans – Rapid spray tans are a type of sunless tanning treatment that allows you to rinse off the bronzer anywhere from 1-5 hours after getting sprayed. Clients can expect to develop their tan in a significantly shorter timeframe making the process extremely convenient and considerably less messy. Traditional Spray Tans require the client to allow the bronzer to develop, usually overnight, for at least 8-12 hours. Clients are required to avoid any water, sweating, and wearing tight clothing during the developmental period. The slow developing bronzer gets on all clothes and bedsheets which in turn creates more laundry and cleanup. Because it’s difficult to avoid things like water (think, washing your hands) there are considerably more risks for uneven development on the face, hands, and body.
Rapid Spray Tans vs. Tanning Beds – We can’t say it any other way… Tanning beds are dangerous (significantly increasing your risk for dangerous skin cancers and fast-tracking aging, wrinkles, and old-looking skin). Rapid Spray Tans are considered safer than tanning beds because they don’t involve exposure to UV radiation, which causes skin damage and premature aging. Spray Tans use a solution containing DHA, a sugar that reacts with the skin proteins to create a temporary tan. Rapid Spray Tans are also a quick, 20 minute treatment, that gets you bronzed within a few short hours and generally last 7-10 days. Despite tanning bed dangers, they require multiple sessions, significant hours to days of exposure to start even seeing tanned skin, time off from work and activities to attend appointments, and are also considerably more expensive given the numerous sessions that are required. Tanning beds can also burn the skin, furthering damaging and increasing melanoma risk, while rapid spray tan ingredients are gentle and safe.

Preparing for Your Rapid Spray Tan
24-48 Hours Before Your Appointment:
- Exfoliate Thoroughly:
- Use a gentle exfoliator (loofah, scrub, polish, or exfoliating glove) to remove dead skin cells on face and body
- Extra focus on dry areas like elbows, knees, ankles, and hands
- Shave or Wax:
- Complete any hair removal at least 24 hours before your tan to avoid irritation and to help your tan last longer (shaving after your spray tan can remove the bronzer)
- This allows pores to close, reducing the risk of a spotted appearance
- Avoid All Oil-Based Products:
- Skip lotions, oils, perfumes, and deodorants, which can create barriers and cause uneven tanning, or make it more difficult to the bronzer to adhere to your skin
The Day of Your Spray Tan:
- Shower Before Your Appointment:
- Use a gentle, oil-free body wash and exfoliate from head to toe
- Avoid using bar soap or anything with heavy moisturizers.
- Do Not Apply Makeup, Lotions or any Skincare!
- Arrive with clean, dry skin to ensure the best adhesion.
- Wear Loose, Dark Clothing and Skip Bras, Underwear and Socks
- Choose loose, dark-colored clothing and sandals to prevent rubbing and staining.
- Bring a Hair Tie and Lip Balm:
- Keep hair off your face and use lip balm to protect lips.
Additional Tips:
- Stay Hydrated: Well-hydrated skin will maintain your tan longer.
- Schedule Activities Carefully: Avoid sweating, swimming, or exercising for at least 8 hours after your tan.
The Rapid Spray Tan Process

Consultation
You will be required to fill out our short and confidential client questionnaire before your spray tan. Once you arrive, we will discuss any upcoming events you are prepping for and decide on a customized shade and color that will suit you best. We will answer any questions you may have and go over post-spray care to ensure your results look even and are long-lasting.

Getting Sprayed
We will step out of the spray tan room and allow you to undress and put on a robe. Our providers will enter when you are ready and you will step into our large spray tan glow booth. Most men and women strip down to their birthday suit to avoid tan lines. However, if you choose to leave on your bra and underwear you may absolutely do so. We will also have disposable cloth thongs for you to use, too, if you so desire. Once inside the glow booth, we will direct you on how to position yourself throughout the spray session to ensure you have the best coverage with the most even results. We typically spray each area 2-3 times, depending on your goal shade. Once completed, we will step out of the room again and allow you to get dressed in your dark and loose fitted clothing.

Your Results
If you’re looking for a healthy glow that’s not too dark (think bride at a wedding or professional photoshoot), you’ll want to shower (just rinse) 2-2.5 hours after application. If you’re looking for a moderate bronzed glow (think Mexico beach ready), you’ll want to rinse 3-3.5 hours after application. If you’re wanting as dark as you can get (think bodybuilding contest), than you’ll want to rinse anywhere from 4-6 hours after application. Avoid shaving arms and legs for the next week to maintain your tan and we’ll have the perfect face and body lotion available for purchase at Juniper to help maintain your results (it’s not expensive and will last you through numerous sprays with us!)
